01 OctSIDRA Launches CLE Series in Partnership with SMU

Starting in August 2017, SIDRA and the Singapore Management University School of Law launched a joint programme for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars, providing legal practitioners and professionals in Singapore opportunities to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points through the Singapore Institute of Legal Education (SILE). The SMU Law Academy (SMULA, formerly called SMU CLE) has been providing programmes, lectures, workshops, and seminars to the Singaporean practice community for quite some time. The joint venture with SIDRA creates a set of programme offerings focused on international dispute resolution and mediation practice.

SMULA-SIDRA seminars have included subject matter such as overcoming impasse in mediation, effective client representation in mediation, the recognisable hallmarks of a well-prepared mediator, and multi-tiered dispute resolution clauses in contracts and enforcement. Future seminar topics currently being explored include general principles of law in international dispute resolution, the growth and impact of third party funding in Singapore, and the emergence of a new enforcement regime for international settlement agreements, among other topics.
